

As I chose to start a food review blog, I came up with the name “isitYumMeh?”, which portrays the question that people will ask when they wonder whether the food is tasty. I wanted my blog to help answer that question, which is why I chose that name. It is also a play on the two words, “yum” and “meh”. The idea is that if the food that I reviewed is nice, I’ll say that it is “yum”, and if the food is not good, I’ll say that it is just “meh”. For the tagline “let me spent the time and money to help you save yours”, is to show that I will be the one that visits the restaurants and try out the food so that my readers will know which places are truly worth visiting before spending their valuable time and money on places that are not good.

The main colors of the blog are pastel orange and pastel pink. Firstly, orange can make a person feel comfortable and welcomed (Color Psychology 2017, para. 5), this color acts as a signifier which has the signified meaning of acceptance. I wanted the readers of my blog to feel relaxed and at ease as they spend their time going through my posts, therefore I chose the color orange. Next, pink is link to sweetness and non-threatening emotions (Color Psychology 2017, para. 8), it acts as a signifier which contains the signified meaning of purity and innocence. I wanted to use the color and it’s signified meaning to show my readers that my reviews are honest and genuine, not fake. I am using pathos where I use the colors to capture the emotions of the readers.

For my header, I included the logo and pictures of me with food. The logo is designed with the main colors of the blog, and is kept fairly simple. A more playful and casual font was used for the words “yum” and “meh” in the logo. My purpose was to showcase a more fun and approachable image to the readers, which will attract them to return to my blog as they know that they can have an enjoyable time reading the posts on my blog. According to Buscall (2013, para. 4), showing your face can help people trust and remember your blog more. Hence, I decided to include a picture of me in the header. Ethos is used here as I use my own image to show that my reviews are credible because my reputation is on the line.

The layout that is use is quite straightforward without any complicated designs. I did not want to choose fancy layout because I wanted to attract readers with the pictures of my food. If the layout is too complex, readers will be distracted. The social media platforms that I chose was twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. These are the most effective platforms that can reach the public, and are also easy to set up.
