Name: LiHO 哩喝

Nearest MRT: Dhoby Ghaut

Bubble tea is such a big part of the Singaporean culture. Although the drink originated from Taiwan, you will always see at least one person carrying bubble tea on the MRT here in Singapore. There are so many brands in the market, and you will probably think of KOI or Gong Cha when you feel like having bubble tea on a hot day. But sadly for the Gong Cha fans out there, all the stores in Singapore has been changed to a new local brand which is LiHO 哩喝. They are trying to introduce the cheese foam tea into the local scene which hopefully will be able to capture the hearts of the previous Gong Cha fans.

Here how one of their stores look like:

Other than the addition of the cheese foam drinks and a few other flavors,LiHO's menu is quite similar with Gong Cha's. You can probably get your usual Gong Cha favorites from Liho, but in terms of price LiHO is slightly more expensive. Taste wise, I definitely prefer Gong Cha more. In our other visit, I tried the normal milk tea at 50% sugar level, like what i would usually get from Gong Cha, but the one from LiHO was too bland and did not have the distinct milk tea taste that I was looking for.

Our order:

Cheese Guan Yin (M) $4.10

As you can see from the pictures, it is such a mess when you try to drink the cheese foam tea. When you attempt to open the cap to stir the drink, you will get the cheese all over yourself. I was extremely annoyed because I couldn't properly mix the cheese with the drink. On its own, the cheese was sort of salty and sweet and the same time. It was also very thick and cheese-like. Those that can't stand too much cheesiness should probably not try this drink out, you will feel sick of it after a few sips. But unexpectedly, the cheese went well with the light tea below. I guess if it was mix together evenly, the taste wouldn't be bad. The negative point about the drink is that when you try to drink from the top to the bottom to get both the cheese with the tea, it becomes a sticky mess.

So...... YUM! or MEH?

MEH......it was not even close to how good Gong Cha was. I even went back to check out the normal milk tea and it didn't live up to what Gong Cha offered. Liho can satisfy maybe casual bubble tea drinkers, but for the loyal group of bubble tea lovers, it's still a long way before Liho can earn a standing among them.
